RELENTLESS RESTORATION

Psalm 51:12

"Restore to me the Joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit"

I read a quote by Robert Murray M’Cheyne this morning and it gripped my heart and it made me consider this question. Am I really doing all that I can to increase my love for Christ and battle remaining sin? So, here’s the quote and a few thoughts to help us as we daily seek the relentless grace of God to be our portion!

“Some of you have truly been brought by God to believe in Jesus. Yet you have no abiding peace, and very little growth in holiness. Why is this? It is because your eye is fixed anywhere but on Christ. You are so busy looking at books, or looking at men, or looking at the world, that you have no time, no heart, for looking at Christ stead. No wonder you have little peace and joy in believing. No wonder you live so inconsistent and unholy a life. Change your plan. Consider the greatness and glory of Christ, who has undertaken all in the place of sinners, and you would find it quite impossible to walk in darkness, or to walk in sin. Oh, what low, despicable thoughts you have of the glorious Immanuel! Lift your eyes from your own bosom, downcast believer - look upon Jesus. It is good to consider your ways, but it is far better to consider Jesus. Oh, believer, consider Jesus. Meditate on these things. Look and look again, until your peace flows like a river.” - Robert Murray M’Cheyne

The bottom line for us as believers in Jesus is that we need daily restoration. We cannot remain complacent concerning were we are at in our present walk with Christ. We must do whatever it takes to move our hearts in the direction of treasuring Christ more than ever! For Jesus made it clear, He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. (John 15:5)

Another words, leave all excuses behind, for each and every day we need the relentless restoring grace of God to saturate our heats! So, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.(Heb12:1)

David was a man after God’s own heart but he needed the relentless restoring grace of God on a daily basis! We are no different, sin is real, Satan is real and we are in a fight for our very souls. Did not Jesus remind us in Matthew 24:13 "But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

Until we see that being united to Christ means war; warring against the flesh and the constant bombardment of this world to forsake Christ and love its passing pleasures there will be no great strides in holiness. Treasuring Christ, treasuring good theology, treasuring a biblical church, treasuring the lost etc…will always be on the back burner!

So today, let’s cry out with David, Restore OH! Lord the joy of seeing you as my great redeemer and friend! And uphold me Oh! Lord by your relentless restoring grace! Its hard work but we rejoice in this great truth. John 4:4 “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

Made willing in the day of His Power!
